The badges decides his damage output mounting on particular units. Air force badges increase the damage of carriers and air strikes if the general is sitting on the striking airport.

I don’t have any extra general, but most people recommend those having 4 badges in some kind of units. Tanks are most favorable, the cheapest 4 badge tank general is Vatutin. Artillery and infantry generals are also very useful.
